Project 3:

Design a compact house for a family of four. A local marina has abandoned a strip of land with boat access, and a family (2 parents with 2 children) with long ties to the Seaford NY area has purchased the site to build their home and develop additional units.  The site will be organized to accommodate their house, which will be a floating house and nine additional floating houses that will be rented to members of their extended family. The unit must be visitable to accommodate a disabled family member who lives nearby and visits often. The maximum allowable area of the house is 1,250 square feet.

Identify the specific type of buoyant foundation proposed for the unit.  Prepare a list of references using the APA Style Guide for citations of articles or websites.

Choose one of these construction systems for the construction of the shell and provide a detailed building section through the unit:

    • Light Gauge Steel Framing

    • Structural Insulated Panels (SIPS)

    • Cross Laminated Timber Panels (CLT)

    • ISO Container Boxes (shipping containers)

Design an event building for the site to support gatherings of 50 people, provide a central mail delivery function, and lockers for remote delivery of groceries and other goods.
